Half-Scale Build #17

With the rotor-head complete prior to fitting out our attention turns to four tubular risers, up and down which it will move between GROUND and FLIGHT positions. I've selected three-quarter inch tube instead of 20mm as it came in a suitable thickness: 18 swg or 1.20mm.

This does suit threaded tubular inserts designed for 20mm, though they are a tight fit. This can be addressed during fitting by heating the tube ends and inserts in hot water and spraying with a little WD40. (The kingpins used for fixing the 'swing-wings' on the Tornado fighter-bomber were cooled in liquid nitrogen during manufacture, but for the opposite reason).

The tubes were cut to 1090mm (47") so that when they are mounted on the passenger platform the air vehicle will be four feet high and three square. Alongside you can see a three-quarter inch drill-bit for making the holes or 'sliders' in the centre section of the rotor-head. The drill-bits have a reduced shank, or else they don't fit the hand-drill: I call it the "Shortshank Redemption".

Finally there is an M6 hook-bolt which is ideal for hanging the poles for spray-painting. They are left-overs, being the only M6 bolt held in stock by my local store during Covid lockdown.

Make do and mend was ever the TELEDRONE philosophy.
